On a fine Monday, after morning tea we went to the hall to watch something and when we were waiting we heard something. It was a person blowing a horn. It was people from a museum. It was maori people. I did care about it but the thing I cared about was the horn because that is the first thing I heard. I smiled when the man came out with it. They were speaking in maori, we were trying to guess what they were saying.

Then when they introduced themselves they did a performance. They showed us some of the moari things. The first one was the poi. It is a round ball on the end of a string. The second one was the long poi it is the same with the short poi but the string is longer. The third one is the short sticks you can do tricks with and it’s like stretching your arm. The fourth one is the long stick that has a pointy end. They use it to fight and to protect themselves from other

people. And the last one is the horn. You can use it to tell people something.

The last thing we did was each class had to wait outside for one of the women or a man. We had a man so then we played, Simon says but in maori first the man told us the action. When we all got the action we started playing it. Each time a person does the wrong action they are out. I almost won but I forgot one of the action’s so there were only two more kids left so they vs each other and they both lost.

After the game we went back to class and talked about it to our teacher because she was not there. Some of us said that they did performances for us and the kapa haka boys did one too. Some said that we played games so the teacher said “ alright we are going to write about it’’ she said. So we did.

Art Colouring Book

 LI: To experiment with colours.

Mine

Original
"Under The Wave Of Kanagawa"

This morning we came to LS2 and tried one of this year’s Kick Start Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to experiment with colours by mixing colours from the original palette with pop colours. This allowed us to recolours famous painting or images of landmarks around the world. Something I found interesting about this art colouring book, was how it was easy to use the different colors and how the original colors of the painting were on the palette, as well as pop colors, as we could combine different colors.

People's Name in Maori

Chunky Challenge

This week our prefix is over - meaning too much. My DLO tells you what the parts of the word mean.

Look Down!

Once there were two young boys. They were excited because they were going to Australia. They had been running around fast like cheetahs that day. They went with their whole family so the whole family was excited about it. They hopped on the plane and took off.

When their parents were asleep the boys were wondering what it looked like outside. They were looking around to find their way out. When they got out of the plane they were looking for a spot to sit. They found a place to sit and it was on one of the wings of the plane.

Then one of the boys pointed down and said “look how high we are!’’. The other boy was shocked when he saw how high they were. Then the parents woke up and saw that their kids were not there so they looked around and they couldn't find them.

Luckily the pilot in the plane saw the boys sitting outside of the plane so he went running to the parents and told them that their children were outside of the plane. The parents were freaked out when he told them that. They ran and carefully opened the door and the boys were sitting on a wing.

Then the parents said “you are in very big trouble” so the boys were sad and walked back inside the plane. One hour later they reached Australia and the boys had to stay in a room for the day and the parents got to relax for the day too. Then they flew back to NZ to live their life.

Here is my narrative. Can you tell what the problem and solution are?
