SSR Selfie | Fiction

I completed a task called SSR Selfie. SSR Selfie is a task for reading. It helps you with your english.

I read a book called Ninja Kid 6 it's a fiction book.

The author and the illustrator is ANH DO and Anton Emdin.

The main characters are: Nelson, Kenny, Grandma, and Doctor Kane.

This story is about Nelson and Kenny want to go on ALL the rides at the halloween fair. But after shrinking themselfes with Grandma's size convert machine to make them a bit bigger for the rides, but suddenly then teeny tiny small to go anywhere or any rides. They ran as fast as they could to get Grandma to ZAP them back to normal.

Today I read a book called The Puppy Who Couldn't Sleep.

The author of this book is Holly Webb

The main characters are Jet (The puppy), Dad, and Lara.

This book is about a black puppy that couldn't sleep at night because the world becomes a scary place for Jet and his howls keep the whole family awake.

Today I read a book called The Baby-Sitter Club.

The author of this book is Anne M. Martin.

The main character's are: Mary Anne, Stacy, and Scott.

This book was about Stacey and Mary Anne baby-sitting for the pike family for two weeks at the New Jersey shore. There’s a gorgeous old house, a boardwalk, plenty of sun and sand... and the cutest boy Stacy has ever seen! But how can Mary Anne tell Stacy that Scott just isn’t interested without breaking Stacy’s heart?

I really enjoyed reading this book because Mary Anne tries to tell Stacy that Scott was not interested in her.

SSR Selfie - Fiction

I read a fiction book called Goosebumps Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

The main characters are: Billy, His mom, and his campers.

This book is about Billy, Mike and other children who went on a 'Camp Nightmoon'. They were missing their parents on the bus journey. The bus driver was wearing a rubber monster mask and the children got scared. The bus driver left the children alone in the jungle. That is all I can tell you, but you can read more by looking at my SSR Selfie.

I enjoyed this lovely book about Goosebumps. It also was interesting.

Today I read a non-fiction book called Three Drones By Peter Griffin

In the book I had to find three keys picese of information about the main topic.

• Drones can be used to rescuing animals but especially rinos because they are the rarest animals in the world.

• People will use drones to take picture of mines and then the builders can see what they need fix and build.

• Drones are also helpful because they help people complete all sorts of things.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Here is my SSR Selfie.

I read a fiction book called The Bad Guys Part 11.

This book is about the Shadow Squad saving the world from butt-handed. Then they started partying, but Mr snake dosen't feel like partying because he is too powerful. 

I enjoyed reading this book because it kinda gave me gosebumps.

I read a book called Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier.

I read 1 chapter of the book. The main characters of the book are Catrina and her family. 

In the beginning of the story Catrina and her family are moving to the coast of Northern California because her little sister, Maya, is sick. Cat isn’t happy about leaving her friends for Bahia de la Luna, but Maya has cystic fibrosis.

Then I had to look for three word that I don't understand and look it up.

enjoyed reading this book because it is very interesting and it kinda gave me goosebumps. And next I could read a non-fiction book.

Synthesis and QAR Templet

Today for reading we did a Synthesis template and a QAR template.

First we started on the synthesis template. We had to read a text and write down prior knowledge new information and new understandings.

Then I finished working on the prior knowledge new information and new understandings.

Lastly we worked on the QAR template. We had to read question and put them in right there, think and search, aurthor or you, and on my own and wrote down the answers.

I really enjoyed this task, but I could've tried a harder text.

Walking With ANZAC

This week we did reciprocal reading about World War 1. The roles are Leader, Predictor, Clarifier, Questioner, and Summarizer. 

These helped us but Clarifier helped us the most because we found new words we didn't know. They helped me find new main ideas for summarising What We Invested and What We Lived.

I like this activity but Clarifier was my most favourite role because I could find tricky words and add them to my key word list. It increased my vocabulary and made my understanding clearer.

When we did What We Lived the one that helped me the most was Questioner because it questioned what we did or how we found things  out.

I like this activity but asking questions was tricky.

Reciprocal Reading

We used reciprocal reading to help us read the Maori Pioneer Battalion.

First we chose a leader. The leader would pick people to do roles like the predictor, and would make sure everyone is listening to the person talking.

Next was the predictor. The predictor tells what the text is about. The predictor also has to ask questions like: Does anyone else have any predictons?

After was clarifier. The clarifier has to identify tricky words. The clarifier can also ask questions like: Does anyone else have something to clarify?

Then the questioner. The qusetioner has to answer questions like: What's your evidence, Why do you think that and does anyone else have any questions?

Finally the summariser. The summariser has to summarise what happened in the text. The summariser also has to ask questions like: Did I miss anything important?

My favorite role was the clarifier because I can find tricky words to add on my keyword list.

Making Connections

Connections are similiar ideas compared between the readers experiences or knowledge and the text being read. There are three differnent types of reading stratigies, they are: text to self, text to text, and text to world.

Text to self is like talking about a story that links to yourself. For example: The duck tells the rat she has a sister. The duck was trying not to get eaten. My conncetions: The first time I went to my cousin they asked if I had a sister and I said yes but I tricked them. These connect because we both tricked someone.

Text to text is talking about something that links to another text in a book. For example: The duck gave water to the horse. The duck saw the hores struggling. My connection: The fairy godmother saw Cinderella at hard working then the fairy godmother gave her what she wanted. These connect because one character helps other.

Text to world is talking about something that links to the world. For example: The duck took the horse back down the mountain. The duck didn't want the hores to stay with rat. My connection: In the world people lead others to the right place like at my school. Mr Ogilvie and Mr Wong leads us to learning. These connect because they both lead other people.

Making connections are an important way of understanding a meaning or a similarity. Connecting texts to other things or people can help you understand similairities. 

Fact or Opinion

I completed a task called fact and opinion.

The story is about a highway rat who was a bad person who was stealing all the other animals food, but a duck tricks the rat into thinking she has a sister at the top with a lot of food.
 

First I listened to the story called the highway rat.

Then everyone had to pick one charter from the highway rat book but we were not allowed to pick the highway rat.

We were only allowed to pick the hores or the duck.

I picked the duck because I heard more information from the duck and the duck was my favourite charter.

Next I wrote down the facts and opinions.

 A fact is something that is true and a opinionis something that you thing that is true.  

Lastly I wrote down 5 adjectives for each opinion to describe the character.

I enjoyed this task because it help me with my visualization and I even need to practice my adjectives.

 

Visualisation - Highway Rat

Visualisation is creating pictures in your head. This helps understand what we read.

Highway Rat is about a Rat who is greedy and steals everyones food. He learns a lesson and everyone lives happily.

My visualisation is different to others because we have different drawing.

We have different visualisation because we have different imagination.
